Keeping Ourselves Safe programme
31 July 2023
Teenaa koutou whaanau maa,
On the 15,16 and 18 August Constable Thomas Pearse from the NZ Police will be supporting the teaching of Keeping Ourselves Safe (KOS) programme with our classroom teachers. The programme is designed to teach primary aged children about staying safe from abuse and violence in a way that is suitable to their age.
This term they will learn:
- to work out when their safety is at risk
- how to keep safe when they meet and mix with other people
- who and how to ask for help if they, or someone they know, is being abused
- to go on asking for help until someone does something to stop the abuse
- that it is important to make and follow personal, family and school safety rules.
They will know:
- that abuse is never okay
- that abuse is never their fault.
Below is a link to more information for whaanau, parents and caregivers if you would like to be more informed.
We will also have a parent drop in session available from 2:30pm on Thursday 10 August in Room 10. If you have any questions or you would rather your child not participate in the program please contact us directly - michael@tkp.school.nz
Please note: Keeping Ourselves Safe is not a Police run program. It is written by the Police and then endorsed by the Ministry of Education to be taught in NZ schools’.
